Preparatory Year

Welcome to all pre-prep children! We look forward to welcoming you into our wonderful community!

The aim of Prep is to build continuity between children’s prior experiences and their future learning in school. At St Elizabeth’s, we encourage children to be a community of active, co-operative learners. We recognise that strong relationships are essential and can be established through mutual interest, trust and care for each other. To develop these relationships, we respond to each child as an individual.

Research shows that children in early childhood settings learn best in an environment that encourages movement, investigation, discussion, outdoor learning and flexible learning contexts, which we cater to through developmentally appropriate and play based learning.

Teachers of prep classes plan their curriculum based on the Foundation Australian Curriculum and allow for the love of learning to grow and flourish in all prep students each day through our rigorous and engaging curriculum.

Students in Prep - Grade 2 are also explicitly taught phonics and how to spell, read and write through the research based program Sounds-Write.  If a child requires additional support beyond Grade 2, we have intensive support sessions allocated to support students with use of this program beyond Grade 2.

We have found that our prep program sets all students up for future success and look forward to welcoming all new prep students to St Elizabeth's now and into the future.
