Religious Education

At St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that the Catholic school is essentially a community based on belief in God and the Christian way of life. We encourage and support the faith development of all community members in all areas of school life. This is facilitated through our Religious Education Program, which is comprised of two dimensions: The Religious Life of the School and the Religious Education Curriculum.

The Religious Life of the School document addresses the components: Religious Identity and Culture, Evangelisation and Faith Formation, Prayer and Worship and Social Action and Justice. The school is centred on Christ, and faithful to the Catholic Church and its living traditions. Celebration of prayer, liturgy and sacraments, which reflect these traditions, form part of the life of the school. We encourage each family to participate in all aspects of the child’s education in faith at home and at the parish level.

The Religious Education Curriculum, developed by the Archdiocese of Brisbane, is the basis for classroom teaching of religion. The focus is on the development of knowledge and skills. The curriculum is divided into four strands: Church, Sacred Texts, Beliefs and Christian Life.

At St Elizabeth's the implementation of effective pedagogical tools, methods and frameworks are central to the delivery of Religious Education. Teachers are equipped with a repertoire of pedagogical strategies that meet the developmental and learning needs of all students. Developing an inclusive scope and sequence of curriculum implementation ensures a rich Religious Education experience. The collaboratively developed Scope and Sequence details each year level's:

  • Achievement Standard;
  • Deep Learning;
  • Surface Descriptions;
  • Core Texts;
  • Complementary Texts;
  • Explicit Prayers;
  • Religious Life of the School connections

The Sacramental Program is a parish-based preparation for receiving the Sacraments of Penance, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The program is conducted outside of school hours and is organised and facilitated by a Parish team. Further information regarding the Sacramental Program can be provided by contacting the Parish Office.
