Camps

Camps and excursions provide a balance between formal learning and life experiences and serve to promote the children's total development.  These activities focus on experience in the wider community and foster mutual respect and cooperation.

Notification
Teachers will advise parents when extra-curricula activities, camps, or excursions are being planned.  Such advice will explain the nature of the activities, the time of departure and arrival back at school, venue involved, transport arrangements, and the cost.  Children attending excursions will wear full school uniform, unless otherwise advised.

For every Camp and Excursion, teachers are required to complete a Camp/Excursion Proposal Form and an Excursion Risk Management Form.  (An incursion only requires a Proposal Form).  These forms must be signed by the teachers and Principal, prior to arrangements being confirmed with bus companies and families.  For Excursions, the Permission and Medical Consent Form that is provided on enrolment is satisfactory.  It is expected that parents keep the school abreast of any changes to a child’s medical condition.  For Camps, alternative Permission Forms are supplied.

Should there be some reason for non-attendance at a school camp, parents must notify the teacher in writing.  Children not attending camp must attend school on these days.

Forms detailing a camp are sent to parents for their permission for children to attend.  Parents are asked to return these permission forms promptly, to assist with planning.

Children will be expected to show respect and courtesy to all adults accompanying the group.  (Unacceptable behaviour of children on camp reflects poorly on the school community). For safety and supervision reasons, any child misbehaving prior to, or during a camp, may be excluded from the next outing.

Students in Years 5, 6, and 7 will be involved in school camps at various venues (see below for more information).  Costing for these will be kept to a minimum with some fundraising involved for more expensive camps.

Our Camping Program

Year 5 students participate in a 3-days, 2-nights camp at Camp North Pine. This is located on the site where the North Pine markets operate every Sunday and is only 40km from school. It comprises a historical village and a museum while also providing a great setting for activities such as canoeing and bush walking. Children also engage in activities such as raft building, low ropes, archery, and sweet or jam making.

Our camping program for our Year 6 students is held at The Mapleton Centre and is a little more challenging. Types of activities offered include: abseiling, high ropes, and going on a flying fox or giant swing. This camp is also for 3-days and 2-nights.

Year 7 students look forward to a Sydney/Canberra trip. We choose to fly on this trip. It commences on a Sunday morning and concludes on Thursday night. Among the many sites to be seen are: the Sydney Aquarium, Mary MacKillop House, Taronga Zoo, Parliament House (old and new), Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Electoral Education Centre, and ScreenSound. We also spend a day in the snow!

(Each year, however, its viability depends on the number of families interested in having their child attend this trip.)
